Yes, I’m one of those whackjobs who loves snow and cold. Actually, I love all the seasons…as long as I’m breathing, it’s all good. But there’s something about snow falling when it’s supposed to, right smack at the debut of the Solstice, that makes it even more special and beautiful.

Of course, that’s easy for me to say. My husband did all the shoveling. And that took him a solid two days.

On the downside, my schedule is messed up, again. At this point, I’m getting used to rescheduling and not getting sick over it. You have plans, then life happens. Good things to ponder while stranded at home.

On the upside, I’ve had very little time for photography lately. Being forced to stay in one location with “other things to do” gave me time to break the ol’Flemish Painter out again to record SNOMG! 2009.

and I really should post more images here and there, but between tattooing, painting and hoarding every single suitable vintage item I can find, blogging falls way down on my list of “stuff I really need to keep up with.”.

I’ve managed a short amount of time in our local burial grounds as of late as well, and missed the peak of autumn’s palette, but the Old Quaker Burial Grounds in Galesville MD offered a few quick views before the sun set below the horizon.

As early as the 1900′s, H Street was a “common ground”. In an era where the lines between races and social standing were clearly marked, H Street blurred the lines. It had everything from exceptional entertainment at the Atlas Theater to fine dining and the best of tailors and merchants.
Racial tensions and suburban sprawl brought this to a halt in the late 60′s.

But H Street, even at it’s lowest…kept it’s spirit, kept it’s funk, and most importantly, kept it’s arms open to everyone. And this past weekend, the 2009 H Street Festival put a accent on the joie-de-vivre that makes it an oasis of true neighborhood feel that’s missing from much of DC.

Britishink was asked to share in some of the fun by helping organize and showcase the 1st Annual H Street Skin & Ink Competition, as part of the H Street Fashion Showcase. With Paul at the helm, channeling his inner circus barker, yours truly organizing a judging system off the cuff, and the help of judges Gina Santucci and Lee Wheeler (of the H St. Country Club), the catwalk was soon crammed with contestants for Best, Most Unique, and Worst Tattoo.

Bless those who came up for Worst. Best sense of humor ever.

The crowd loved them all, and we’re especially grateful to everyone that participated and made the even so damn much fun!

After a few weeks off, it’s so good to get back into the studio. So far it’s been a very colorful week. Thank you to Paul and Katie for allowing me to make them a bit more colorful.

Returns and Reconsiderations

Well, after two weeks of jetting around England and Louisiana, I’m happy to be back in the studio. I’m not as happy that I’m having a terrible time keeping up on email since I’ve been away, but if you have sent a message…I promise I’ll respond and I thank you for thinking of me.

For the handful of you that might stop by this blog from time to time, you may notice a LOT of boxes that read “Image Currently Unavailable”, accompanied by a little flickr logo in the corner. I love flickr, and I love sharing my photos of art and life in general, but recent events have made me reconsider sharing images with the public at large. It seems there’s a fetish for everything…and most of my photos appeal to folks who see my subjects as OBJECTS rather than living, breathing, feeling people. I’m trying to say, in a nice way, that I’ve been busy blocking pervs.

The photos will return, once I secure the privacy of my flickr images. So all 5 or 7 of you who actually look at this blog will see something besides my nattering very soon.
